The settings apply per hotel. Whatever you set here is used everywhere in Hotellistat where KPIs are shown or picked: dashboards, Intelligence reports, Pricing and ARIS.
The page has two types of KPIs:
Default KPIs â the 14 standard KPIs every hotel has. You can rename them, translate them, change their icon, reorder them and hide them.
Custom KPIs â KPIs you create yourself, based on a formula. You can create, edit and delete them freely.
What you can set
Each KPI has the fields below. Default KPIs are locked in their calculation; only how they look can be changed.
Field | What it means | Default KPIs | Custom KPIs |
KPI name | The label shown everywhere in Hotellistat, e.g. "Average Daily Rate" | Editable | Editable |
Translations | The name per language (e.g. English and German). Users see the name in their own interface language | Editable | Editable |
Abbreviation | The short, unique code of the KPI, e.g. | Locked | Set when creating |
Type | Hard = a value taken directly from your PMS data. Soft = calculated by a formula | Locked | Always Soft |
Formula | How a soft KPI is calculated, e.g. | Locked | Editable |
Icon | The unit shown next to the value: none, currency or percentage | Editable | Editable |
Order | The position of the KPI in lists and pickers | Editable | Editable |
Visible | Whether the KPI is offered in KPI pickers | Editable | Editable |

Rules for custom KPIs
Abbreviation: must start with a capital letter and may only contain capital letters, digits and underscores (e.g.
OCC_NET). No spaces. It must be unique within your hotel.Formula: may use
+ - * / ( ), numbers, and the abbreviations of any default or custom KPI. It may also use the raw PMS metrics Hotellistat knows (about 70, e.g.OOOfor out-of-order rooms). The editor suggests abbreviations as you type and shows the resolved KPI names as a preview.A formula cannot refer to its own KPI, and two KPIs cannot refer to each other in a loop (A uses B, B uses A).
Division by zero does not cause an error; the value simply stays empty for that period.
How it works
Rename or translate a default KPI
In the Default KPIs table, click Edit on the KPI.
Change the KPI name. Keep it short: long names can be cut off in tables and charts.
Add or change translations for each language your team uses. You can only pick from the languages Hotellistat supports, one name per language.
Optionally change the icon (none, currency, percentage).
Save. The new name appears across Hotellistat right away.
Abbreviation, type and formula are greyed out for default KPIs, and default KPIs cannot be deleted.
Create a custom KPI
In the Custom KPIs table, click to add a new KPI.
Enter a KPI name and its translations.
Enter a unique abbreviation, e.g.
OCC_NET.Enter the formula using abbreviations. Example: occupancy without out-of-order rooms =
RN / (CAP - OOO) * 100.Pick the icon: percentage for a rate, currency for money, none for a count.
Save. Errors such as unknown abbreviations, unbalanced brackets or loops are flagged before you can save.
Change order and visibility
Use the order to put the KPIs your team uses most at the top of KPI lists.
Switch Visible off to hide a KPI from KPI pickers. Hiding does not delete the KPI or its data; you can switch it on again at any time.
Edit or delete a custom KPI
Click Edit to change any field of a custom KPI.
Click Delete and confirm. If another custom KPI uses this KPI in its formula, the deletion is blocked. A message names the KPIs that use it. Change or delete those first.
The same check applies when you change the abbreviation of a KPI that other formulas use.
What it affects
Every screen that shows or lets you pick a KPI reads its list, names, icons and order from this page. Custom KPIs are calculated from your PMS data on request, in the same way as the default KPIs, including currency conversion.
Area | What changes |
Dashboards | KPI pickers in Intelligence widgets list your renamed and custom KPIs; widget labels and units follow your settings |
Intelligence | KPI filters and tables in Business Mix, Pickup Analysis, Cluster View, Benchmark, Booking Curve, Trend Analytics and Full Year show your names and offer your custom KPIs |
Pricing | The PMS Table, ARIS Forecast Table and sub-legend use your KPI names. The occupancy bars, forecast line and availability table can be switched between Room Nights, Bed Nights and Utilized Beds, labelled with your names |
ARIS | The ARIS configurator and the Budget/Forecast "Visible KPIs" selection use your KPI list |
QuickView | The performance KPIs picker uses your KPI list |
Changing a name does not change any numbers. Default KPIs are always calculated the same way, whatever you call them.
Example â hostels: a hostel can rename Bed Nights to "Overnight Beds" and Utilized Beds to "Bed Nights". The whole system then speaks the hostel's own language. This replaces the special naming that used to be built in for individual chains.
Tips and FAQ
Can I break my numbers by editing a default KPI? No. You can only change the name, translations, icon, order and visibility of a default KPI. Its calculation stays fixed.
Why can't I delete a custom KPI? Another custom KPI uses it in its formula. The message lists which ones. Edit or delete those first.
My custom KPI shows no values. Check the formula for typos and for abbreviations that do not exist. Use the abbreviation, not the KPI name, and no spaces inside an abbreviation. Also check that your PMS delivers the data the formula needs.
Do settings apply to my hotel group? Settings are stored per hotel. In group views, custom KPIs are resolved using the first hotel of the selection, so define the same custom KPIs with the same abbreviations in each hotel you compare.
Why is my KPI name cut off? Long names do not always fit in tables and charts. Keep names short; put details in the translation or your team's documentation.
Where do I set the colors of segments and sources in charts? Not on this page. Colors for data such as market segments, sources and room types are set under Settings â PMS â Virtual Data Mapping (open). Charts and tables across Hotellistat, e.g. Historical Analysis, Pickup Analysis and the revenue/room nights by segment widgets, use those colors. Data without a color gets a fixed automatic color that stays the same across reloads.
